Exhibition:
80 Years of Tomorrows
Salt Galata
June 3 – September 30, 2026
Mastercard Exhibition Hall
The exhibition 80 Years of Tomorrows traces the eighty-year history of Garanti BBVA through Turkey’s economic, social, cultural, and technological transformation.
Since its founding in 1946, the bank has amassed an institutional memory that extends from the transformation of the financial system to the fabric of everyday life, from the language of communication to visual culture. Tracing Garanti BBVA’s enduring relationship with Turkey and the world, the exhibition proposes a fresh reading of the past from the perspective of the present. It builds on the comprehensive archival work initiated by Salt in April 2023, approaching this history as a field of inquiry open to multiple interpretations. Interviews with individuals connected to the bank’s history accompany a selection of archival documents, visual materials, and objects that have become part of the collective memory.
The exhibition presents the bank’s milestones, its technology-driven business model, and its evolving understanding of customer experience. The exhibition’s narrative takes shape around four main themes, ranging from corporate identity and advertising to social investment and sustainability. It brings together documents, videos, objects, and publications from the bank’s archive, while also offering site-specific digital experiences.
In the exhibition, data visualization, algorithmic systems, and AI-driven analysis turn thousands of visual and textual materials from the Garanti BBVA Archive into a multilayered sensory environment. Using interactive touchscreens, visitors can chart their own paths through the archive.
Salt Research Garanti BBVA Archive
As part of the archival work launched in April 2023, more than 36,000 physical items—including posters, photographs, reports, commercials, periodicals, albums, film negatives and positives, brochures, and various objects—were cataloged in Turkish and English and digitized, while approximately 255,000 digital documents were inventoried. Bank employees contributed new materials to the archive throughout the project. The archive also includes interviews that shed light on the institution’s history, and its first installment, comprising 10,000 documents, will soon be accessible at Salt Research.
