Library as Public Space
Salt Galata
March 27, 2013 11.00
SALT Galata, Workshop II-III
Organized in the context of the Annual 49th Library Week and open to high school students, the talk will examine libraries as public spaces in parallel with indoor design and the user-centered structure of SALT Research. Our relationship with libraries will be described as a journey and exemplified with extracts from literature and art history. The discussion will explore the “book as an object” and how its form can effect the experience of reading.
Students are encouraged to ask questions about public libraries in regard to the relationship between the book and the library through the connection of space and design. The integrity and accessibility of libraries and today’s digital publishing developments will also be discussed.
Aslı Altay: Founder of the design studio FAI (Future Anecdotes İstanbul)
Vasıf Kortun: Director of Research and Programs, SALT
İz Öztat: Artist
The talk will be held in Turkish.
