Workshop:
The Artist's Rights
Salt Beyoğlu
June 26, 2012 17.00 – 19.00
SALT Beyoğlu, Level 1
SALT Interpretation is organizing a series of workshops titled “The Artist’s Rights” in the scope of the exhibition In Deed: Certificates of Authenticity in Art. The workshops, which will be held at the exhibition space on the first floor at SALT Beyoğlu on June 26 and 28, focus on artists’ rights in relation to their artworks, in reference to the authenticity certificates on view.
During the past century, changing dynamics of the society and technological developments lead to new discussions on intellectual and artistic works. In the global economic system, many issues such as the increase of communication tools and networks that make access to artworks easier and faster; the agreement, protocol and prerequisites accepted and signed without discussion with third parties and institutions as well as the use of artworks as investment tools pose threats for artworks and their owners. At the same time, various legal acts are put into effect at the local and international level in order to recognize and protect artists’ rights with regard to works of art. These acts provide the artist the inalienable rights as creator of the work and the transferable economic rights of the work.
SALT brings together artists and legal practitioners for “The Artist’s Rights” workshops focusing on these legal matters. In the workshops, which will be open to the public, the artists will share their unique experiences and basing their arguments on these experiences, legal practitioners will explore the moral and economic rights of artists, as well as the components and limitations of these rights.
The workshops will be held in Turkish.
