Ferit F. Şahenk Hall
opened
Located on floor -1 at SALT Galata, SALT Research Ferit F. Şahenk Hall opened on March 21, 2017. The new space is available to Master’s and Ph.D. students, academicians and independent researchers who would like to use SALT Research collections. Researchers interested in using the space should fill out a registration form at saltresearch.org, and eligible applicants will be provided with personal access passes.
Featuring seating for 40 people, an additional shelf capacity for 10,000 publications and reservable study areas, the space is designed by ŞANALarc, who received the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Continental Europe Interior Design Award for the main space of SALT Research. Developed by Ersa for SALT Research in 2011, Lin Library System is also used in the space.
SALT Research Ferit F. Şahenk Hall is open from Tuesday to Saturday, 10.00-19.00. All services are free.
SALT Research
Opened in 2011, SALT Research functions in line with “Library 2.0” standards to respond to user demands and expectations. SALT Research collections focus on post-1950 visual practices, the built environment, design, social life, and economic history.
In the last six years, SALT Research collections have expanded from 80,000 to 110,000 publications. While SALT Research hosted 20,000 users in 2012, attendance has grown significantly to over 47,000 users in 2016. Opening hours were extended in 2014, and SALT Research has operated six days a week since the end of 2015.
SALT believes that libraries should be more than silent and secluded spaces. The institution is committed to fostering an environment for learning, discussion, and production, where users can research, spend time around books, explore, and work with their colleagues.
