Personal Storytelling
Photography Workshop with Arja Hyytiäinen
Salt Galata
May 16 – May 20, 2015
SALT Galata, Workshop II-III
A recent initiation of SALT and Geniş Açı Project Office is to host a series of photography events throughout 2015. The discussion and production-based series continues with a Photography Workshop conducted by Arja Hyytiäinen. Workshop participants will each focus on a personal theme and their final work will be publicly presented at SALT Galata at the conclusion of the workshop.
Finnish photographer Arja Hyytiäinen is well known for her photographic practice; a mixture of fiction, autobiography and philosophical musings. Hyytiäinen has made a name for herself as a contemporary street photographer, with a subjective, cinematographic style. Her personal interpretation of photography is the ability to enter into the lives of others and echo personal experiences to help enlarge her understanding - as well as ours: “I believe in translating emotion into images, feeling and experiencing life through photography, seeking and questioning, trying to see beyond the visual reality. I’m interested in personal, self-experienced stories and the very individual language of expression so that the photography does not only become a style but an
evidence of one’s personal existence.”
Please note that participants are expected to present their physical print portfolios to Hyytiäinen. The workshop welcomes use of multiple techniques including text, drawing and sound in dialogue with photography. The workshop will be free of charge to applicants. To apply you may fill out the online application form, providing a link of your portfolio with a maximum of 30 photographs selected from 1 or 2 series. Upon Geniş Açı Project Office’s evaluation of applications, 12 selected participants will be notified by May 1.
The workshop will be conducted in English.
You can find the application form here.
Final date for applications is Monday, April 27.
