Infinity According to Florian (2022)
Director: Oleksiy Radynski
70 minutes
Ukrainian; Turkish subtitles

One of the leading figures of Ukrainian architecture, Florian Yuriev, faces a battle to save his most famous work—Kyiv’s iconic Institute of Scientific, Technical, and Economic Information, initially designed as a concert hall and known as the Flying Saucer—from being converted into a shopping mall at the hands of a real estate developer. The acclaimed architect is determined to fight for his greatest legacy and resist the investor, who has no other vision than using his power and wealth to build the largest building in Kyiv. Despite the dismissive attitude of the city officials, Yuriev launches a campaign to protect his building with the support of a group of young architects and soon proves himself as a force to be reckoned with.

Premiered at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, the documentary was awarded “Best Ukrainian Film” at the 19th Millennium Docs Against Gravity Film Festival and “Best Art Film” at the 36th Pärnu International Documentary and Science Film Festival.

Organized as part of the World Architecture Day program with the support of Kalebodur, the screening will take place on Tuesday, October 3 at 19.00 in the Walk-in Cinema at Salt Beyoğlu. The film will be screened in its original language with Turkish subtitles.

The work of artist, writer, and filmmaker Oleksiy Radynski (1984, Ukraine) revolves around social tensions and cultural contradictions created by the Soviet architectural heritage in the context of post-Soviet urban development and infrastructure.
